Military Women In Need is the only independent organization in Southern California that exclusively and holistically serves female veterans and survivors of veterans.

Mission & History

Mission
It is the mission of Military Women In Need to empower female veterans and survivors of veterans (widows) to live their lives with independence and dignity. Through housing assistance, emergency subsidies, resource and referral services, and home visits, Military Women In Need serves those who sacrificed for our freedom.

History
Military Women In Need’s Housing Subsidies Program operated under the umbrella of a private foundation since 1921. The original organization assisted widows of those who served in the United States Armed Forces, and mothers whose sons were lost in the name of our country. Our original clients included women whose family members served in the Spanish-American War and World War I. In 2005, MWIN became a separate public charity and expanded to its current five core-program structure. MWIN is the only organization in Southern California whose primary purpose is the prevention of homelessness among female veterans and survivors of veterans.

Today we serve female veterans and survivors of veterans from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2011, after noticing a growing need in our community, Military Women In Need began to serve female veterans and survivors of veterans with children. With the help of our generous donors, we are prepared to serve veterans and survivors of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan as they return from duty.
